Hi there,

There are a few exciting challenges PathMotion is facing and working on. The one that keeps us awake at night is how to scale PathMotion successfully while keeping the strong culture and family feel to PathMotion and ensure that everyone evolves with us and adapts to the new reality of the business.

When you grow your business rapidly and in consequence your team threefold in a year (speaking from experience here!), you are bound to make mistakes, even if you are an expert in Talent Attraction :). There are a few ways we now try to set ourselves up for success, based as well on some of the mistakes we have made int he past.

We put a lot of effort in our hiring process to get the right people on board, including ensuring there is both a cultural and competency fit with the people joining the team. You really need both to set yourself up for success and this sometimes means taking longer than you want to hire the right people but it’s important not to compromise on that one.

Creating the right culture at PathMotion: there is no obvious formula to achieve this, but we try as much as we can to ensure everyone at PathMotion has a say in defining the company we want to become. Twice a year we have a team away weekend where we have a dedicated session on culture and values led by employees from our different offices. Beyond just defining what values we want to stand for we try to bring as many examples as we can from every member of the team on how to translate this into reality on an everyday basis. This sets the tone on how we interact with each other and with the external world.

Finally we are putting processes in place to ensure best practices can easily be shared. The agility you have being a small team can quickly erode if no clear processes and guidelines are in place. It doesn’t come naturally as an entrepreneur to do so but processes can bring a lot of efficiency and help team members focus on what matters while benefiting from what other team members are finding successful.

We are still at the beginning of our scaling journey, and it’s one of the challenges that hopefully will keep us awake for a while!

Did you experience any good practices on how to face that challenge?

Best,
David
